France wonderkid Kylian Mbappe has responded to his recent comparisons with Brazil legend Pele after his exploits against Argentina in the last-16 of the FIFA World Cup.
Mbappe, 19, produced a scintillating display, grabbing a brace in the thrilling 4-3 victory over Lionel Messi's Argentina on Saturday.
His feat matched a record as the first teenager since three-time World Cup winner Pele, to score two goals in one game at the global showpiece in over 60 years.
Pele was quick to congratulate the Paris Saint-Germain forward with a cheeky response via his official Twitter account.
Congratulations, @KMbappe. 2 goals in a World Cup so young puts you in great company! Good luck for your other games. Except against????????!
And Mbappe, who completed a £166m (R3b) transfer to PSG from Monaco in August, today responded via L'Equipe after being made aware that he emulated the Selecao legend.
"I’m very happy and it’s flattering to be the second teenager after Pele but let’s put things in context: Pele is another category, but it’s good to be among these people.
"As I’ve already and always said, at a World Cup you have all the top-level players, so it’s an opportunity to show what you can do and what your abilities are. There’s no better place than a World Cup."
