Orlando Pirates are currently busy with pre-season preparations in Nelspruit, before they jet off to Zambia for the second leg of their programme.

The Buccaneers are being put through an intensive week-long camp in Mpumalanga, after returning from the off-season break last week Monday.

With the season set to kick off in exactly a month, Micho Sredojevic and his technical staff are preparing their troops for a potentially arduous season, in which they will also be contesting a crammed CAF Champions League campaign.

"For the first couple of days of camp we will be focusing on endurance work. We will be stepping things up as the days go on,” strength and conditioning coach Franck Plaine told Bucs' website.

"Pre-season plays a very important part in setting the foundation for the team to be able to fire on all cylinders when the season starts.

"Endurance and injury prevention are key areas that we will be focusing on to ensure that the players can produce consistent performances."

While fitness is a key aspect of the team's programme, Plaine has also explained the importance of building camaraderie amongst the old and new players in camp.

"Apart from the endurance however, this camp will afford us an opportunity to get the new and old players to gel," he added.

"It’s difficult for the new players because they’ve got nothing to benchmark against, but from an integration point of view camp is brilliant in bringing a new squad together.”

The club also announced plans to play a friendly fixture before departing for Zambia, where they will test themselves further against local opposition.

"The team will return to Johannesburg at the end of the week before flying out to Zambia a day later," read a statement.

"The Zambian leg of the Buccaneers camp will focus mainly on matches as the team nears the start of the 2018/19 season."
