Liverpool tie down Mohamed Salah with new contract

Posted: 2 July 2018 Time: 09:13

Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool.

Salah has been rewarded with an improved deal at Anfield after plundering 44 goals in 52 matches in his first season with the Merseysiders in 2017/18 following his £36.9m signing from Roma.

'Liverpool Football Club can confirm Mohamed Salah has signed a new long-term contract with the club,' read part of a statement on the club's official website.

The African Footballer of the Year registered the second highest total of strikes in a season in the Reds’ history last term, just three goals shy of Ian Rush’s mark of 47 and surpassing Roger Hunt’s tally of 42.

The 26-year-old, who was named as both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year, also shone in his country's qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

However, he suffered an injury on the eve of the competition, restricting his involvement at the finals as the Pharaohs suffered a group stage exit in Russia.
