Highlands Park director Larry Brookstone insists the team will be competitive in the topflight this season, unlike their ill-fated campaign in 2016/17.
The Lions of the North, under the tutelage of coach Owen da Gama, have made an immediate return to the Absa Premiership as runaway National First Division champions - bouncing back emphatically from their relegation the season before.
Brookstone pointed out the last time they gained promotion they did so via the play-offs, which gave them little time to prepare for their elevation to the top tier.
"We are busy preparing ourselves and we'll definitely be ready," Brookstone tells KickOff.com.
"The last time we got promoted via the playoffs we had no off-season, no pre-season. There were no players available. So what we learnt from that is not to get promoted via the playoffs.
"So when you ask me what we will do differently, we have done a lot differently. Not that we wouldn't have done it last time, but we had no time.
"The task is we want to be competitive from the start, I think that is the important thing. We want to be competitive from the start. We've got a very good technical team, by the time I'm finished with everything we'd have signed nine players. We've released 14 or 15 players, but I can't talk about them at the moment.
"I think we'll be a formidable team going forward and that is my number one goal."
He added: "I just want to see that we are a competitive team, that's what I'm interested in and then we can judge where we can go from there.
"But at the moment the objective is to put together a competitive squad that gives us the opportunity to enjoy what we are doing because it wasn't enjoyable last time."
