Henrico Botes is planning for the future by doing his coaching badges

Posted: 29 June 2018 Time: 12:00

Former Platinum Stars and Namibian national team striker Henrico Botes is working towards becoming a coach.

Botes’s contract with University of Pretoria expires tomorrow and the club has already indicated that they will not be renewing it.

At 38, the big forward has to plan for life after football and he feels coaching is what he will be good at.

“I was with Tuks, but my contract finished and the option was not taken. You know when you get a little bit old hey,” Botes says.

“I was busy doing my coaching badges, so I am well on my way to equip myself and to learn the tricks of the trade. It’s just about getting the opportunity to showcase what I got. I believe I will be a good coach.”

The former Moroka Swallows and Bidvest Wits hitman, however, makes it clear that he has not retired from playing. He’ll be hoping to find a new club before the start of the new season.

“We’ll see what the future holds. At this stage I have not retired, but I am obviously leaning towards the coaching side of things because I feel personally I can make an impact to the game,” he states.
