Mpumalanga Black Aces are through to the First Division Play-Off Final after beating Carara Kicks 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate) at the LC de Villiers Stadium in Pretoria.
David Vilakazi’s side looked far more determined in the opening stages and took a deserved lead on 18 minutes when Leonard Qaba headed home a corner.
Aces looked to hit back and were unlucky not to be given a penalty as Madoda Motha and Sibusiso Dlamini began carving into Kicks’ defence. Sammy Troughton’s team, quick on the counter-attack, showed more intent, but by half-time hadn’t managed to equalise.
However, they did level soon after the restart when some great work down the left by former Ria Stars man Jacob Machaka allowed Motha to score.
And then on 66 minutes Aces got the winner when Esau Mtsweni stroked a penalty home following a foul by Wilford Mothapo.
Aces now meet Thanda Royal Zulu for a place in the lucrative Absa Premiership.
