Colombia keep WC dream alive, Poland out

Colombia kept their 2018 World Cup campaign alive with an impressive 3-0 win over Poland in their second Group H clash on Sunday evening.

Colombia settled well early in the match and dominated possession but they struggled to create clear opportunities in the opening minutes.

Poland's star striker Robert Lewandowski cut a frustrated figure up front due to a lack of service, as Adam Nawalka’s charges were playing from deep in their own half.

After a quiet spell in the clash, Yerry Mina finally broke the deadlock for Colombia five minutes before the break with a clinical header inside the box following a teasing cross from James Rodriguez, 0-1.

The Poles were struggling to get out of their own half and, as a result, went into the break trailing 0-1.

Pèkerman’s men went in search of the second goal 10 minutes into the second stanza as they refused to sit back on their lead.

Desperate for the equaliser, Poland exposed themselves to counter-attacks whenever they ventured forward.

Radamel Falcao punished the Poles on just such an attack 20 minutes before time with a well-taken finish after being played through on goal by Juan Quintero

Five minutes later, Juan Cuadrado netted the third goal for Los Cafeteros as he finished off another counter-attacking move with a cool finish.

That proved to be final piece of goal-mouth action in the second stanza as the Colombians register their first win, while Poland have been eliminated.
