Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Robson Muchichwa feels Khama Billiat is the calibre of player that Amakhosi have sorely needed.
Chiefs today announced the signing of Billiat on a three-year deal from Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as the acquisition of fellow attacker Andriamirado 'Dux' Andrianarimanana from Fosa Juniors and left-back Lethlogonolo Mirwa from ABC Motsepe League side Buya Msuthu.
Amakhosi are believed to have pulled out all the stops to recruit Billiat, who rejected a contract extension offer at Chloorkop and was wanted by Egyptian giants Zamalek, in addition to clubs in Eurasia.
The 42-year-old Muchichwa, who won the Rothmans Cup with Chiefs in 1997 and 1998, has praised his former employers for landing his Zimbabwean compatriot's services.
"I think for me they've learnt the lesson that if you invest in quality you'll get results," Muchichwa tells KickOff.com.
"I'm very much excited. I was just hoping they'll do that and they've just done it. The only thing missing now is to announce the new coach."
Muchichwa, who had two stints at Chiefs, adds: "They now have the star quality to go all the way in Africa. Previously I had so many doubts with the quality. That is what was missing, the quality.
"All over the world you need quality players to win trophies and my advice to him [Billiat] will be to keep on working very hard. He knows what is expected at Chiefs.
"He'll improve that team because he's quality and in South African football and Africa he needs no introduction, especially at a team like Kaizer Chiefs."
Billiat - the PSL Footballer of the Year in 2016 - won three league titles, the Nedbank Cup, the Telkom Knockout, the CAF Champions League and Super Cup in a five-year stay with the Brazilians.
The Glamour Boys, who will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup this coming season, are hoping Billiat can help them end a three-year trophy drought.
