Frank Lampard is reported to have expressed interest in reuniting with Ivory Coast star and former Chelsea teammate Salomon Kalou.
Kalou, 32, spent six seasons at Stamford Bridge, where he won every piece of silverware on offer, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, and four FA Cup medals.
He's since enjoyed relative success in Ligue 1 with Lille and in the German top-flight with Hertha Berlin.
And now, Lampard, in his first managerial role since retirement, is said to be keen to add the Elephants forward to his playing squad in the English Championship.
However, Kalou's current employers have strongly denied the reports, stating he's not at the stage of his career where he's considering playing his trade in the English second-tier.
"Salomon was our top scorer last season. He is staying here - we are planning with him," Hertha Berlin general manager Michael Preetz told Kicker.
"With all due respect to Derby County, while it is realistic Salomon will be keen on a new challenge at some stage, it's hardly going to be the English second division, even if Lampard and "Sala" respect each other from Chelsea."
The German publication added that Kalou has turned down lucrative offers from China in the past, rejecting the opportunity of earning up to €7-million per year.
Kalou has scored 43 goals and registered 11 assists in 130 games for the Bundesliga side over the past four seasons.
