Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane says the squad for the coming season is good enough to challenge for everything, and welcomes the competition for playing time.

Zwane is amongst one of the longest serving players at Chloorkop at present, and is closing in on the eight-year mark since his arrival from then-Vodacom League outfit Varda FC in 2011.

Having seen the talent that has come and gone over the years, the 28-year-old believes the squad is in great nick at present, following the recent additions of Andile Jali and Toni Silva to the quality that was already present.

“I think now we’re strong enough to play in two cups – CAF Champions League and the Absa Premiership – because, if you check the players in the squad, there’s a lot of quality,” ‘Mshishi’ tells KickOff.com.

“We have a lot of players that are motivated so, for me, I think the quality is top. The squad is strong enough to go for everything.”

With his own position having been beefed up with the likes of Gaston Sirino, Thapelo Morena and Keletso Makgalwa, Zwane has welcomed the tough competition as he looks to continue his rise with The Brazilians.

“For me, the competition is nice because it always keeps me on my toes. Whenever I get a chance, I make sure I make use of it,” he adds.

“I think it’s better to have strong competition than to play where there’s no competition, because obviously it would cause you to relax as a player.

“But, if you know there’s strong competition then you will always work harder. If you don’t play, you’ll always do extra to be ready for your chance when it comes.”
