Germany's Marco Reus tipped to win 2018 FIFA World Cup Golden Ball after overcoming injury troubles

Germany forward Marco Reus has been backed to win the Golden Ball as he prepares to compete at his first FIFA World Cup.

Reus, 29, missed out on the 2014 FIFA World Cup and Euro 16 due to injury and despite only featuring in latter stages of the Bundesliga this season, his seven goals in 11 games was enough to convince Joachim Low to include him in the 23-man squad.

While Leroy Sane's omission was hotly debated amongst football fans, former Germany striker Cacau feels the injury-prone forward has what it takes to announce himself on the biggest stage of all this month.

"Marco Reus is the player of the tournament, for me," he told T-Online. "He is an absolutely top international player, who can dribble, is extremely fast and very strong in the final third.

"I am pleased that Reus is finally able to experience his first World Cup and I hope he stays in shape, which would mean a huge improvement in quality for the team."
