Kaizer Chiefs' Wiseman Meyiwa shares message for South African youth

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Wiseman Meyiwa has shared some useful advice for up and coming sportsmen and women, and wishes to see more young people attending games.

South Africa will be celebrating Youth Day this Saturday, a day we commemorate the youth who shaped our country’s history through the Soweto Uprising in 1976.

The 18-year-old, who broke through the Amakhosi development ranks to the senior team nearly a year ago, has since launched a plea that today’s youth remain focused on striving towards a better future, as he too looks to further his education.

“I want to encourage the youth to study hard and remain focused. When you play sport don’t give up studying, continue to balance school and sport to prepare for a better future,” Meyiwa told his club’s website.

“Life is a journey. It becomes difficult if you lose focus. My mom always encourages me to work hard. So far so good, I can see light at the end of the tunnel.

“I am going to college after June and am looking to register for a Sports Management course.”

With the domestic season currently on recess, Meyiwa, who recently turned out for Bafana Bafana at the COSAFA Cup, has also encouraged his contemporaries to come in their numbers at PSL fixtures in the new season.

“I can’t wait to get back onto the field in gold and black [Chiefs’ kit]. I’m encouraging the youth to attend matches in numbers. Sport offers youth an opportunity to exercise their talents and stay away from wrongdoings,” he concluded.
