Official: Fernando Hierro appointed as new Spain head coach after Julen Lopetegui exit

Real Madrid legend Fernando Hierro has been appointed to lead Spain at the 2018 FIFA World Cup after the abrupt sacking of Julen Lopetegui today. 

"Fernando Hierro will assume the position of national coach in the World Cup of Russia," read a statement on the Spanish FA official website.

Hierro is best known in Spain for his playing days at Real, where he won five La Liga titles, as well as the Champions League three times.
