Manchester City's Pep Guardiola explains why he will never return to FC Barcelona or manage Spain

Posted: 11 June 2018 Time: 19:00

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has ruled out any possibility of managing FC Barcelona again or taking over the Spanish national football team.

Guardiola led Barca to 14 trophies in four seasons, which made him the most successful coach in the LaLiga side's history in his first-ever head coaching role after stepping out from the club's academy team.

After a one-year sabbatical, he went on to maintain Bayern Munich's domestic domination and left the club after three seasons, racking up a further seven titles.

Despite finishing trophyless in his debut Premier League campaign with City, Guardiola established himself as one of the world's best coaches in a record-breaking title win this term, displaying breathtaking attack-minded football.

Many believe a potential Spain move or return to the Blaugrana could be a fairytale next move for the 47-year-old, but he's conclusively ruled himself out the notion - eluding to his support of the Catalonia independence.

"I'll never be coach of the national team because I'll never be offered the job," he told TV3. "I don't regret having played for the national team.

"My team is Barça and I've coached Bayern Munich and now, Manchester City. I will always put my work and professionalism before anything else."

On a potential return to FC Barcelona, Guardiola said: "As a coach, that would be impossible. That was a stage of my life which is now over. I no longer had the strength [to coach Barca], I have grown tired of the routine.

"And I can see where Barcelona are now and I realize that maybe it wasn't such a bad decision."
