Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands claims the want to challenge on all fronts

Posted: 10 June 2018 Time: 12:00

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands says the team will look to challenge on all fronts next season after stabilising the ship in 2017/18.

Pirates recorded their lowest finish in the PSL when they came 11th in 2016/17 under the collective watch of Muhsin Ertugral, Augusto Palacios and Kjell Jonevret.

However, they responded admirably under new head coach Milutin Sredojevic and his assistant Rhulani Mokwena by placing second to champions Mamelodi Sundowns this past campaign and qualifying for the CAF Champions League.

Sandilands is well aware The Ghost are desperate to see the end of the club's four-year trophy drought, having last tasted success  in the 2014 Nedbank Cup.

“I think every player will be lying to you if he says he is going into the season and he doesn’t want to win anything," says Sandilands.

“I don't know which player will say to you that they are training so hard and sacrificing so much, and they do not want to win anything.

“I think for us as players, playing for a club like Pirates demands success. I think it is in our hearts and mind that we want to achieve and win trophies.

“In every competition we participate in we must take that as an opportunity to win something.

“Obviously there is a lot of work to be done in saying it and achieving it, but as players at Pirates that's what we are looking to achieve next season,” concludes the former Sundowns keeper.
