Brilliant Khuzwayo opens up about his relationship with former Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela

Brilliant Khuzwayo endured a frustrating time at Kaizer Chiefs but insists he never had run-ins with former Amakhosi coach Steve Komphela.

Khuzwayo is thought to be on his way to Orlando Pirates when his deal with Chiefs expires at the end of June, having turned down a contract extension offer at Naturena.

The 28-year-old decided to leave the Glamour Boys after continually playing second fiddle to Itumeleng Khune, having only featured in 37 matches in six years with the Soweto giants.

Khuzwayo maintains he enjoyed a professional relationship with Komphela, who spent just shy of three seasons with Chiefs prior to his resignation in April.

"It was alright, it was healthy, very healthy," Khuzwayo said in an interview with Gagasi FM Extra Time in Durban.

"There was never a moment where we would clash with each other or shout at each other, there wasn't any of that. We were always cool, we were always alright.

“There was a time where he took me out and put Reyaad Pieterse in so that Itu will play the Soweto Derby. After Itu was coming from the stands he [Komphela] just said, 'We are moving you away from the team'. I said, 'No, no, no, you don't need to explain anything. We are professionals here. I understand what is happening here, we are in a pressure situation because of South Africa. It's a Derby, it's hyped up. So that person in the stands, they trust him more than the two of us. So I understood that, it's fine, I'll go home'. And then it's only the Derby that I stayed at home at Kaizer Chiefs. So our relationship was alright.

“Anything you can do to me, I'm not fazed by anything. I've seen worse things besides football. So I'm not going to be emotional about football and say, 'this person did this to me', then I'm not a right human being."
