International wrap: Iceland and Uruguay conclude their FIFA World Cup preparations for Russia 2018

Iceland let a two-goal lead slip against Ghana last night, while Uruguay eased to a 3-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their final 2018 FIFA World Cup warm-up fixtures.

After losing all three of their previous warm-up fixtures against Mexico, Peru and Norway respectively, Iceland got off to a blistering start against Ghana at the Laugardalsvöllur Stadium in Reykjavík.

Veteran Kári Árnason opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Augsburg striker Alfreð Finnbogason netted a second on the brink of half-time.

However, the smallest nation of just over 300 000 population succumbed to the Ghanaians in the second-half, with towering defender Kasim Nuhu pulling a goal back in the 66th minute.

And Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey's 87th-minute strike denting the morale of Heimir Hallgrímsson's side before their trip to Eastern Europe.

Suarez and Co ease to victory:

Having only played one warm-up fixture and against a lesser nation like Uzbekistan, it would be difficult to gauge the form of the South Americans before their Group A opener against Egypt next week.

However, inspired by their attacking talisman Luis Suarez, the FC Barcelona forward set up midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta Benedetti for the opener before doubling the lead from the spot in the second-half.

Oscar Tabrez side secured the game with a third and final goal in the 73rd minute through Atelti defender Jose Gimenez to cap off a one-sided performance in a sold-out Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
