AmaZulu and Wits draw

AmaZulu should only blame themselves for missing out on three points after playing to a 1-1 draw against BidVest Wits at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, South of Durban on Wednesday afternoon.

Usuthu let it slip once again when they clearly had their opponents against the wall throughout the ninety minutes.

Maybe it was Wits coach Roger de Sa’s counter attack system that unsettled the Durban side.

Wits were the first to draw blood in this entertaining game played in front of about five thousand spectators when David Radebe benefited from sloppy defending by Usuthu to put his side in the lead early in the first half.

Usuthu staged a steady comeback with Ghanaian Mohammed-Awal Issah and Bafo Biyela proving to be a thorn in the Wits side but his efforts proved fruitless as his strikers Dumisani Ngwenya and veteran John “Shoes” Moshoeu seemed to lack the required cunning when in front of goal.

The thousands of loyal AmaZulu supporters had to wait until towards the end of the first half to their side getting the equaliser through Dumisani Ngwenya, who scored a brilliant left foot strike from a tight angle.

The scores were level at 1-1 at the interval. AmaZulu coach, the well travelled Clive Barker, started the second half with the more attack minded Sthembiso Dlamini substituting debutant Mangaliso Biyela.

Although Dlamini did make his presence felt in the game, wayward shooting and some excellent goalkeeping from Sean Roberts cost AmaZulu the three points.
