Orlando Pirates legend Helman Mkhalele has reserved praise for the quality of football on display in the ongoing ABC Motsepe League play-offs.

The winners of the nine provincial streams are currently doing battle in Limpopo as they target promotion to the National First Division next season.

The Dolphins FC (Limpopo), Maccabi FC (Gauteng), Manguang United FC (Free State) and TS Sporting (Mpumalanga) are the only sides remaining at the semi-final stage, and will clash today for a place in Saturday's final.

Mkhalele, who is currently assistant coach to Thabo Senong at the men's national U-20 side, has been impressed with what he's seen.

“I’m happy with the quality which I’ve seen here so far. From the first game which was played, it was very difficult to predict who will make it to the semis," Mkhalele told SAFA's website.

"All sides here were just quality from the onset, and that says to me the standard of quality in this country, from a developmental level, is just continuing to get better and better.

“And, for somebody who’s also here to scout talent for SAFA’s national junior teams, the quality I’ve seen here makes me really happy. I’ll make recommendations.”

Thurday's semifinal fixtures:

The Dolphins FC vs Maccabi FC

Manguang Unite FC vs TS Sporting FC

The two finalists gain automatic promotion to the NFD for the 2018/19 season.
