Montpellier's Keagan Dolly saddened by Ajax Cape Town relegation

Posted: 6 June 2018 Time: 20:30

Former Ajax Cape Town star Keagan Dolly says he is heartbroken to see the club dropping down to the National First Division.

The Urban Warriors were relegated to the second tier of South African football after being docked points for fielding an ineligible player in Tendai Ndoro, although they are still fighting for a way back through the courts.

Dolly made his PSL breakthrough at Ajax before rejoining Mamelodi Sundowns and eventually moving to Montpellier in France's Ligue 1.

“It’s sad to see what’s happening at Ajax Cape Town,” the 25-year-old tells

“Ajax Cape Town had good players like Khama Billiat, Thulani Hlatshwayo, George Maluleka – these are players who are now playing for big teams and doing well.

“As a youngster, I looked up to them and at Ajax, we were like a family, they treated me well. I started hanging out with Hlatshwayo, he took me under his wing and showed me how things are done. Matthew Booth was also there and my bond with Khama got stronger. That’s where everything started for me.

“It is very sad, a team like that that produces the best talent in the country, and now going down to the National First Division. Just thinking about all the people who work for the club, all the youngsters in development ... but ja, it’s part of football and these things happen. But hopefully they will be strong enough to bounce back in the PSL next season.”
