Mulenga: We want everything

Orlando Pirates striker Augustine Mulenga says the club is way too big for their four-year trophy drought, and they will therefore be targeting everything on offer next season.
Mulenga joined Pirates midway through the season, making just seven appearances in all competitions following his late arrival in February after competing in the African Nations Championships.
Despite featuring in only six Absa Premiership fixtures, the 28-year-old managed three goals and showed plenty of promise ahead of his first full season in the Premier Soccer League.
Formerly on the books of Zanaco – one of Zambia’s prominent sides in recent years alongside ZESCO United – Mulenga said upon his arrival that he had always dreamed of playing for The Buccaneers.
Now that he has been afforded the opportunity, the Zambian international is on a mission to help resurrect the club from their four-year hiatus of having gone without silverware.
“Orlando Pirates is a big club that has gone four years without a trophy – a big team must not stay that long without winning silverware,” Mulenga says in the latest KICK OFF Magazine (Issue 494).
“A big team must stay only one or two years, and not this long, without a trophy. In football it happens because everyone wants to win.
“When you are fighting for something, you just have to keep on putting in the effort. Next season we just have to work extra hard so that we achieve our goals.”
Pirates last lifted the Nedbank Cup in 2014, and came close to adding another last season, but unfortunately fell short of that glory after losing to SuperSport United, in what was their worst league season in the PSL era.
Asked what it is specifically that Bucs will be targeting next season, the stocky forward insists they will be gunning for the ultimate prize in every competition, both domestically and on the continent, where they will contest the CAF Champions League after ending second in the league this past season.
“We want everything because everyone in this team wants to win. I cannot say we just want the Nedbank or the league,” he stresses.
“We want everything and that is why we will fight hard to get everything we want. We will fight hard until the end of the season and see what we will have achieved at that point.”
