COSAFA Cup plate semi-final match report Namibia v Bafana Bafana 05 June 2018

Posted: 5 June 2018 Time: 16:14

Bafana Bafana put on a commanding performance as they dismantled Namibia 4-1 to advance to the Cosafa Cup Plate final.

Embattled South Africa coach Stuart Baxter rang the changes after the shock loss to Madagascar, and they almost went ahead in the opening minutes after a poor clearance landed straight to Wiseman Meyiwa, but he failed to profit.

The lively start from the home nation continued as Lebohang Maboe forced Mbaeva to a save minutes later on.

The Brave Warriors weathered the storm and pressed forward on a few occasions with a couple of shots at the goal of Reyaad Pieterse.

Bafana took the lead through the boot of Aubrey Modiba, who converted from the spot on 24 minutes after the visitors were caught handling inside the box.

The second came within moments of the first as Maboe beat the offside trap to beat Mbaeva with a cool finish in the bottom corner.

It was almost three soon after as Ryan Moon rose to meet a cross from Gift Links on the left, but his header was excellently saved by the keeper.

The opponents got through the defence after a combination of passes and managed to force a big save from Pieterse on 33 minutes.

Namibia managed to pull a goal back as Deon Hotto was played in over the top before executing a sumptuous first-time volley to arrow the ball into the bottom corner.

However, Bafana quickly regained their two-goal cushion through Maboe, who completed his brace with a close-range finish that deflected home.

Captain Siyanda Xulu made it four and invariably ended the contest with a close-range tap-in on 52 minutes.

Bafana held on to claim the win for a place in the plate final on Friday, where they will face either Lesotho or Botswana.
