Real Madrid reportedly had a deal in place to sign Senegal superstar Sadio Mane before Zinedine Zidane's shock exit from the European champions last week.
Mane, 25, was a key performer for the Reds en route to the Champions League final and scored his tenth goal in the competition during the 3-1 defeat to Los Blancos.
France football claims the Teranaga Lions attacking talisman was Zidane's key target to bolster their attacking options during the off-season while club President Florentino Perez agreed to sanction the transfer.
With Zidane's surprise resignation, the prospective deal is now allegedly hanging in the balance, with Real first seeking to replace the Frenchman who led them to three consecutive European titles.
Mane, a £37m signing from Southampton in 2016, scored 20 goals and registered nine assists in 44 games across all competitions last season.
