Cape Town City reportedly have their eye on Chippa United playmaker Mark Mayambela.

Mayambela, who hails from the Cape, has bounced between clubs over the past few years and could make a return to the Mother City.

Citizens coach Benni McCarthy was teammates with Mayambela at Orlando Pirates towards the end of the Bafana Bafana legend's playing career.

Since leaving Swedish outfit Djurgarden in January 2015, the 30-year-old Mayambela has turned out for Royal Eagles, SuperSport United and Ajax Cape Town, while he is in his second stint with the Chilli Boys.

Chippa, who have also been linked with veteran campaigners Daine Klate and Thabo Nthethe, are set to part ways with a number of players before the new season, including Bantu Mzwakali and Mxolisi Macuphu. Striker Edward Manqele may also be on the way out of the Port Elizabeth-based side.

"Manqele signed a short-term contract," says Chippa CEO Lukhanyo Mzizi.

"We just appointed a coach [Dan Malesela] and we will see if we keep him next season."
