Highlands Park co-directors Larry Brookstone and Brad Kaftel have confirmed over 10 players have been released by the club ahead of their return to the topflight.

Pentjie Zulu, Vukile Mngqibisa, Seun Ledwaba, Ayo Oluwafemi, Siphelele Luthuli, Mbuyiselo Thethani, Tumisang Mashele, Mxolisi Gumede, Elias Monene, Zamuxolo Ngalo, Larry Horaeb and Edwin Sitayitayi have all parted ways with the Lions of the North.

"Yes, that's correct, there's quite a few we've released," Brookstone told

Kaftel added: "These players only played a handful of games for the team in the season which just ended."

Former Jomo Cosmos and Bidvest Wits defender Zulu sounded disappointed when asked about his exit.

"My contract was not renewed you know," Zulu says.

"Ja, we've parted ways. I was not even told the reason for that. There is lots of us who have been released.

"At the moment I am still waiting, I had an interest from AmaZulu but I'm still waiting for them to come back to me. I want to check them first."

Highlands, who have signed ex-Maritzburg United captain Bevan Fransman, started preparing for the new season on Monday. They are set to travel to Nelspruit at the end of this month for a pre-season camp.
