Bidvest Wits are preparing to make a move for Chippa United midfielder Bantu Mzwakali.

The midfielder joined the Chilli Boys after parting ways with Ajax Cape Town in January, but now looks set to make a move to Johannesburg to don the colours of former Absa Premiership champions Wits.

Wits are also interested in Chippa forward Mxolisi Macuphu, as coach Gavin Hunt looks to reinforce his squad after a disappointing campaign saw them finishing outside the top eight just a year after being crowned the kings of local football. According to information gathered by, Macuphu is set for a medical at Wits soon.

Mzwakali joined the Chilli Boys on a three-and-a-half year deal six months ago, but made just four appearances for the side in the second half of the season. Negotiations for a move to Johannesburg are said to be at an advanced stage.

“Wits are talking to Chippa United. Mzwakali could be wearing the Wits jersey next season,” said a source.

Chippa have already lost the services of Paseko Mako and Linda Mntambo, who are set to play for Orlando Pirates next season.
