Highlands Park have officially started preparing for the 2018/19 PSL season.
The Lions of the North had their first training session and player assessments today, just over a month after winning promotion to the Absa Premiership.
Highlands had an incredible season in the National First Division, going 25 matches unbeaten on their way to earning themselves a spot in the big league.
They are not taking anything for granted and a clear example of this is how early they are starting their preparations for the new campaign. Having been relegated after just one season in the topflight in 2016/17, the Lions of the North do not want to repeat the same mistakes they made during that campaign.
One of the players the club is said to have signed is former Maritzburg United captain Bevan Fransman, while Tshepo Gumede and Brilliant Khuzwayo are players they are interested in.
Highlands coach Owen da Gama, though, did not want to disclose the side’s new signings.
“We’ve started so early because we want to prepare as best as possible,” Da Gama tells KickOff.com.
“We are not pushing too hard now. We are doing assessments and trying to get everybody settled in, so that they understand how we are going to work.
“We’ve signed seven players, but I can’t tell you who they are because we have to wait until their contracts are up at the end of June. We have decided to keep the bulk of the squad from last season.”
To prepare for the new campaign, Highlands will be heading to Nelspruit at the end of this month for a training camp.
“We are going to Nelspruit. We are going to spend 10 days there. We will be going on the 26th of this month.”
