Double PSL award winner Siphesihle Ndlovu has revealed how he doubted himself at Maritzburg United when Ernst Middendorp was coaching the club.
Ndlovu was unable to win over Middendorp at the beginning of 2016/17, but when the German resigned he got his break under Roger de Sa and continued to impress under then-caretaker coach Fadlu Davids at the end of the campaign.
The 21-year-old took his game to the next level under Davids in 2017/18, as evidenced by his winning the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season and Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season accolades on Tuesday.
“I was doubting myself when coach Ernst was here, that's why I didn't play much under him because I was not having that confidence,” Ndlovu said.
“But when coach Fadlu took over, he is the one who made me to believe in myself and made me to be brave. I think he really played a part in my performance this season.
“He is the one who changed the performance. But the real coach who changed my life is Roger de Sa; when he gave me the opportunity to play and he played me regularly.”
Ndlovu also believes that the awards he got will motivate him to do even better next season.
“I feel great about them and I'm really motivated for the upcoming season and for the upcoming storms.
“I am very happy. It feels so great to win an award after a hard and difficult season.
“This is the reward from the season. It wraps up the overall performance of the season.”
