Black Leopards coach Joel Masutha says the club's supporters played a huge role in the team winning the promotion/relegation play-offs.

Leopards defeated Jomo Cosmos 1-0 at a packed Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday to earn their place in the Absa Premiership next season after a five-year absence.

"I have to thank the supporters. It has been unbelievable to be honest. We last experienced this the last time we got promoted," Masutha says.

"Now we have brought topflight football to them and this is to thank them well with the PSL status."

Masutha admits Lidoda Duvha had little belief they could do the job in the early stages of the campaign.

"I'm over the moon to be honest. It has been an unbelievable turnaround of the season where we started with less hope, but the effort that these boys put in has changed everything. We started to believe and here we are - now we are in the PSL."

He adds: "This is how you treat your players. Me and the players are friends. I am a coach yes, but in certain situations I become their friends to make them feel at ease."

National First Division champions Highlands Park were also promoted to the elite league, as Platinum Stars and Ajax Cape Town dropped to the second tier.
