Kaizer Chiefs duo Itumeleng Khune and Itumeleng Shopane both walked away from the PSL Awards with accolades for their respective efforts this past season.
Khune was crowned Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season, ahead of Maritzburg United’s Richard Ofori and Mamelodi Sundowns’ Denis Onyango, following his 16 clean sheets in 27 games.
Amakhosi’s number one gloveman was not present at the awards ceremony held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Tuesday evening, with his dad Elias collecting the prize on his behalf.
However, the 30-year-old has since expressed his gratitude after bagging his fourth Goalie of the Season gong, crediting his teammates, the supporters and his family for his success.
“Thank you to my teammates, supporters and my family for their support throughout the season,” Khune told his club’s website.
“It was a tough season for the team, but I’m grateful for my contribution. We will do better as a team next season.”
Meanwhile, Shopane, who picked up the Player of the Tournament award in the MultiChoice Diski Shield category, reserved special thanks for his mother and brother.
“I appreciate this reward. I wish to pass my gratitude to the entire Amakhosi family for their support during the course of the season," he added.
"Most of all, I want to thank as well my family and in particular my mother and brother for their support.”
