Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter set to make changes to his squad for the AFCON qualifiers

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says the squad he will pick for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will reflect that the national team is in a process of change.
Baxter will not have a friendly match before their AFCON qualifier against Libya on home soil in September, so he will be using the COSAFA Cup in Polokwane to have a look at some of the players he can include for the crucial encounter.
Baxter did say that players such as Siphiwe Tshabalala, Hlompho Kekana, Morgan Gould and Clayton Daniels, the over 30s who were part of the camp for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Senegal last year, will be phased out of the team to make way for some of the younger players.
This means some of the players who are in the COSAFA Cup squad have an opportunity to prove themselves to the senior national team coach during the competition in Polokwane.
Baxter won’t have ideal preparation for the match against Libya, but he’ll take what he gets.
“A straight answer to that is that whatever preparation you get has got to be enough. Would I have liked more? Yes. Would I have liked to have some time to bring in the players we are talking about here and gel it with what we’ve got? Yes.
“Will the first AFCON qualifer be massively different? I think the squad will be different. It will reflect that we are in the process of changing the guard. But the starting 11, given what we’ve seen, may not be hugely different, but I am guessing it will be different.”
