Bobby Motaung provides updates on Kaizer Chiefs' search for a new head coach

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the club’s coaching search has been narrowed down from a list of around 20 applicants to just six candidates.

Amakhosi are on the hunt for a “quality and experienced” coach, according to ‘Bobsteak’, following the abrupt departure of Steve Komphela last month.

Having gone through a historic three-year trophy drought, the club are now in the advanced stages of finalising enlisting the new man to take charge for the upcoming 2018/19 season.

“There is a shortlist. We‘ve had a lot of coaches that have fished – there are about 15-20 coaches’ CVs that we’ve received, but we have shortlisted it,” said Motaung.

“We are now on the verge of finalising the man that we feel will carry the club and take it forward. We have about six coaches remaining.

“It’s a process, and there’s meetings and committees where we sit and analyse and interact, and obviously give views and inputs.”

With Chiefs supporters having run out of patience over the club’s barren run, Motaung assured they will appoint someone of good stature to take the brand forward.

“We’re looking at a good coach for Chiefs, a great man for Chiefs. We’ve got a criteria, which we will announce later,” he added.

“For now, definitely, we are looking at a quality coach for the club. Someone with experience, class, credentials and who understands the landscape and the brand.”
