Abel Mabaso is a target for Soweto giants Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates have set their sights on signing Chippa United midfielder Abel Mabaso.

The Buccaneers, who have already secured the signing of Chippa man Paseka Mako, are looking to bolster their midfield, as Thamsanqa Sangweni is expected to leave the club after a difficult first campaign with the Soweto giants.

Mabaso, a former Mamelodi Sundowns player, has done well in central midfield, a position not many were used to seeing him playing in because he played in defence before joining the Chilli Boys.

Another player who is expected to join the Buccaneers from Chippa is former Jomo Cosmos man Linda Mntambo. Pirates will be competing in the CAF Champions League and are determined to have a squad that can compete on all fronts, as they look to get their hands on the Absa Premiership trophy.

"The club has now gone for Mabaso," said the source.

"They are expected to finalise the deal soon."

Bucs have already signed Kuda Mahachi from Golden Arrows.
