PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs match report Platinum Stars v Black Leopards 26 May 2018

Posted: 26 May 2018 Time: 18:52

Ten-man Platinum Stars were denied maximum points by Black Leopards as the two sides drew 2-2 in the PSL Promotion/Relegation Playoffs on Saturday.

Dikwena needed nothing but victory to stay in the race for promotion after failing to put Jomo Cosmos away in midweek.

A promising start came from them early on when a few half-chances fell to Letsie Koapeng and Riyaad Norodien.

The Orlando Pirates loanee found the best opportunity to break the deadlock after Rotshdizwa Muleka was forced off his line to punch his free-kick away from danger.

From nowhere, Koapeng was at the front of a second chance after a cross in the middle but he was unable to keep his first-time volley down, as it went way over the top on 11 minutes.

Meshack Maphangule then had perhaps the best chance early on after cutting inside on the edge of the area, he unleashed a stunning drive but Dino Visser showed good reflexes on 20 minutes.

As the game opened up, Dikwena went ahead when Koapeng showed good control and composure to beat Muleka with a nicely placed close range finish in the top corner on 23 minutes.

Lidoda Duvha didn’t allow their hosts to settle following the second half, as they drew level in exquisite fashion.

Zambian Mwape Musonda continued from where he left off against Ezenkosi with a stunning bicycle kick that beat Visser hands on 53 minutes.

The North West outfit were reduced to 10-men after Nyiko Tshabangu went in with a harsh challenge on 60 minutes.

With a man down, Roger De Sa threw his final dice when Bonginkosi Ntuli came on with 20 minutes to go to add more steel to their attacking compartment.

The move almost paid off after 76 minutes when Koapeng took a shot on the turn following a cross-field pass but Muleka held easily.

The momentum quickly swung to the other end after Musonda found acres of space in the box from a through ball but he was denied by the crossbar.

The experience came through for Dikwena after Koapeng powered home his brace following a brilliant set-up by captain Vuyo Mere on 84 minutes.

Soon, it all fell apart when Musonda pounced on a disastrous piece of defending to get a perfect side of goal and beat Visser flat-footed on 87 minutes to earn a point.
