Platinum Stars' players are well aware it's do-or-die in their promotion/relegation play-offs clash with Black Leopards at Moruleng Stadium on Saturday night.
Roger de Sa’s men can’t afford anything less than a victory as they are three points behind play-offs leaders Leopards and one shy of Jomo Cosmos with two matches left.
“We need to get into the field and play for our lives, our families. I don’t want to have it on my CV that I was there when Platinum Stars got relegated. As a player the things you want on your CV are those good achievements - winning cups and the league. We are going to give our best and make sure that we win against Leopards,” said defender Siphiwe Mnguni, whose sentiments were echoed by speedy winger Sipho Senne.
“We need to approach our games by attacking. We have nothing to lose. We have to attack Leopards from the first minute to the last. We have to win. We are not going to the NFD. I believe that we can push and survive as we have quality players,” said Senne.
Mnguni and Senne graduated to the first team from the club’s youth ranks. Playing in the elite league has always been a dream of theirs. Now their dreams depend on how well Dikwena do in their next two matches.
Mnguni, who captained Dikwena’s MDC side, is confident that De Sa’s charges will triumph at the expense of Leopards.
“We should continue where we left [off] against Cosmos. We performed well but luck was not on our side. The team needs everyone to be positive and fight. Everything is okay. It’s just a matter of us doing the right things on the pitch. It’s a do-or-die situation. There’s no draw, no loss. We have to win our games. We need to do it for our supporters, families and ourselves. We are in a good place in terms of performances and we just need to convert our chances and win,” said Mnguni.
Kick-off at Moruleng Stadium is at 20h15.
