Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has been nominated for the PSL Footballer of the Season award for four straight years and is just as excited as when it happened the first time.

Kekana, who has been denied the accolade by Lebogang Manyama, Khama Billiat and Tefu Mashamaite in the previous three seasons, says being nominated again is special and it will motivate him to repeat the feat next term.

For Kekana, winning the award would come as a bonus. He is just happy to get nominated because he always challenges himself to be among the top players in the league every season.

This season Kekana, who is also nominated for the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season gong, is up against teammate Percy Tau and Maritzburg United’s Siphesihle Ndlovu for the award.

“It’s special for me to be a nominee because every season I challenge myself to be a better player. I am glad that the panel could see that the numbers don’t lie and that there’s something I do in this league,” Kekana tells KickOff.com.

“I am obviously excited to be nominated. It’s four years in a row now, so that shows that I try by all means to be there every year. I get motivation from things like this. It will motivate me to go for a fifth next season because it’s not about winning, but making sure that I am counted every year.”
