SuperSport United midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane says they have to focus on trying to win the Absa Premiership title next season.
SuperSport spent almost the entire season struggling in the bottom half of the table. They finished outside the top eight, but after Ajax Cape Town were found guilty of using the ineligible Tendai Ndoro, and were docked seven points, SuperSport moved up to seventh place.
With just nine victories in 30 matches during the past season, Matsatsantsa know that they need to make a lot of changes to ensure they have a better campaign next term.
“We need to try collect points from the day the league starts. Our main focus is to do well in the league more than the cup matches. If we get a cup, that’s a bonus, but we need to do well in the league and see where it gets us,” the former Kaizer Chiefs man tells KickOff.com.
“It’s very possible [to challenge for the title] with the team that we have. The team will try bolster with new players next season, so I think we will have a good squad [to compete].”
SuperSport struggled in the league after going all the way to the CAF Confederation Cup final. Next season they won’t play on the continent, so this will give them more time to focus on domestic football.
“The season was a tricky and difficult one, considering we didn’t think we’d find ourselves fighting relegation. We had to dig deep the last few games to try save our team from being relegated.”
