Mamelodi Sundowns striker Jeremy Brockie has expressed his excitement over the prospect of coming up against the likes of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta.
The Brazilians are set to host FC Barcelona in an international club friendly in commemoration of the late Nelson Mandela’s centenary at the FNB Stadium this evening.
The La Liga champions touched down in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning ahead of tonight’s clash, which kicks off at 18h15, and are expected to return home directly after the match as they still have one remaining league game on Sunday.
The Kiwi, who completed a move from Tshwane rivals SuperSport United in January, has already secured the first league triumph of his career, and could now make further history by coming up against one of the best club sides in history.
“It’s very exciting. You watch those players play every week on TV and you wonder how good they would be in real life, and now we’ve got the opportunity to match ourselves against the best in the world,” Brockie tells KickOff.com.
“The boys are very excited, there’s a lot of talk around the changeroom. Hopefully I can get some minutes to say that I’ve played against Barcelona.”
With PlayStation or X-box often the only way to ‘control’ the likes of Messi, Iniesta and Luis Suarez, Brockie is relishing the chance to try and control these stars on the pitch.
“Normally I’m being Iniesta and Messi and controlling those players [on PlayStation], now I’ll have to try and control them in a different manner,” he jokes.
