Free State Stars are fed up with rumours linking coach Luc Eymael to other clubs

Posted: 16 May 2018 Time: 15:15

Rumours of Luc Eymael possibly joining Kaizer Chiefs or SuperSport United are creating a “negative vibe” in the Ea Lla Koto camp, according to general manager Rantsi Mokoena.

Stars finished in the top eight, despite not winning their final seven matches of the season. Mokoena feels that their drop in form towards the end of the campaign has something to do with the reports of their coach leaving to join either Amakhosi or Matsatsantsa.

Stars have a Nedbank Cup final date against Maritzburg United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday and will be hoping they end the campaign with a trophy in the cabinet.

“I think it’s unfair and maybe even undermining for this narrative to continue. We need to respect the fact that he is contracted to a team. It almost suggests he is above Free State Stars or Stars don’t deserve a coach of this calibre. That narrative needs to stop because at the end of the day this is a club that’s in a final and this is a club that’s in the Premier League, and it’s a club with rich history. The journalists who have been around long enough will tell you where this team comes from.

“The coach is contracted and whether or not he is available should not be an issue because he is contracted. He has not signed a life-time contract, but what we should focus us on is the final and the season we’ve had. I don’t want to find blame, but we’ve gone seven games without a win in the league. If you trace it back, since the story broke out about SuperSport and Chiefs, it goes as far as disturbing not just himself, but the players and the office. It creates a negative vibe within the camp, so what I strive for is to fully focus on the final.”
