Highlands Park midfielder Mothobi Mvala is banking on the experience of coach Owen da Gama to help the team survive their first season back in the topflight.

After getting relegated from the Absa Premiership last season, Highlands bounced back at the first time of asking, winning automatic promotion with four games to spare in the National First Division. They finished the campaign on 69 points, 19 ahead of second-placed Black Leopards.

“We are happy to be back in the PSL and we hope we don’t repeat the same mistakes we made the last time we were in the PSL,” Mvala tells

“I think we are going to perform and I believe we are going to prepare well. We are going to have a lot of rest and a proper pre-season. With the coaches we have, coach Owen and coach Allan [Freese], we can do well. They are very experienced and they have coached in the PSL before.

“Coach Owen also has international experience. He coached Bafana Bafana before, so I don’t think we will struggle like we did last time. I think we are going to perform well and we can’t wait to play our game in the PSL. We are looking forward to it.”
