Cape Town City boss John Comitis reveals North African signing

Cape Town City are bringing in a North African centre-back with European club experience for next season.

The Citizens are shoring up their backline following the departure of their Players' Player of the Season Robyn Johannes to Bidvest Wits.

City chairman John Comitis, however, would not reveal the name of the recruit at this stage.

"We found a centre-back and I'll just tell you that he is from North Africa and he’s an exceptional player,” Comitis says.

“He’s played in Europe and he’s going to be stepping in. Hopefully we can add one more centre-back in the mix with our outgoing centre-back Johannes.”

Johannes, who penned a pre-contract with Wits in January, didn't play in the season-ending 2-1 loss to AmaZulu on Saturday due to suspension.

Coach Benni McCarthy fielded Kwanda Mngonyama and Taariq Fielies as his central defenders against Usuthu.
