Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has explained what led to goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo leaving the club on a free transfer.
Khuzwayo played his last game for Amakhosi in their 2-1 victory over Ajax Cape Town over the weekend, replacing injured first-choice shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune.
It was an emotional send-off for the 28-year-old, who spend six years at Naturena following his arrival from AmaZulu in 2012, as he expressed his gratitude to the club and fans after the match.

With his contract coming to an end next month, Motaung has sought to explain why the club did not offer Khuzwayo a contract extension.
“Brilliant Khuzwayo approached the club asking for a blessing to move to another club at the end of the current season,” Motaung said in a club statement.
“The main reason for his departure is for an opportunity to play more games because he is not getting any younger.
“Brilliant gave us his all and we’ve given him our support throughout his stay with us. When a player has been good to the club and asks to spread his wings, we have to respect his wish.”
Khuzwayo’s departure will now open the door to youth graduates Bruce Bvuma and Brylon Petersen to challenge Khune for a place between the sticks.
