Highlands Park midfielder Mothobi Mvala wants to establish himself as a regular in Stuart Baxter’s Bafana Bafana squad

Mvala has been named in Baxter’s preliminary squad for the COSAFA Cup, which kicks off on May 27 in Polokwane. The final squad will be named on May 17 and Mvala has his fingers crossed that he makes the cut.

He wants to impress Baxter, so that he can ultimately be a part of Bafana’s squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, should the national team qualify.

“I feel good and happy to be part of the [preliminary] squad. We as players always want to represent our country, so being called-up is great and I am looking forward to it,” Mvala tells

“I just want to be a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad, like others players like Itu [Khune], Andile [Jali]. I also want to be like them and I want to be part of the team that qualifies for AFCON. I would really love that.”

After winning his first trophy as a professional with automatically promoted Highlands, Mvala is confident more success is coming his way.

“I feel it’s the beginning of good things to come. It’s the first time I win the league, I have never lifted a trophy before. Good things are coming and I would be very happy if I can lift a trophy with the national team in future.”
