Percy Tau comments on Absa Premiership success and possible European move

Posted: 12 May 2018 Time: 20:52

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Percy Tau has commented on helping the team to their Absa Premiership crown, as well as on the possibility of moving to Europe.

Tau played a starring role this season as he tallied 11 goals and 10 assists to lead the Brazilians to their record eighth league title in the PSL era.

The forward, who celebrates his 24th birthday on Sunday, was promoted from the club’s youth ranks in January 2014 but made only one league appearance as the team went on to win the 2013/14 title.

When Pitso Mosimane led the club to the championship title in 2015/16, Tau was loaned out to his hometown and National First Division club Witbank Spurs.

This time around though, he can take full credit for the success but refuses to count it as his first crown.

“Even the first one [in 2013/14], I contributed – I played against Pirates,” Tau argued jokingly after the match at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Saturday evening.

“I’m so proud of the work we’ve done and we fought hard, and finally we get a chance to celebrate and get this medal again.

“Last season was difficult because we lost it in the last three games, but at least this year we did much better.”

With speculation on his future ongoing, the Bafana Bafana attacker remained tight-lipped on the possibility of moving abroad, but admits he is ready should the opportunity arise.

“If I get an opportunity [then I’ll go abroad]. If I don’t get it, then… But, on being ready, I’ve played [CAF] Champions League; I’ve played Club World Cup; I’ve played for Bafana," he added.

“I’ve tested myself in those stages and I’ve seen a lot of those things.”
