Golden Arrows winger Siphelele Magubane became the first player from the club to win the Absa Premiership Goal of the Month award for March and the player was chuffed to write his name in the club's history books.
Magubane was presented with the award at Princess Magogo Stadium yesterday, after the club's morning training session in preparation for their last game of the season against Maritzburg United today (15h00).
The former Milano United player, who joined the club at the beginning of last season, shrugged off competition from Cape Town City duo Thabo Nodada and Lyle Lakay, Polokwane City striker Puleng Tlolane and teammate Jabulani Shongwe to get the award.
Magubane's goal was scored against Polokwane City on March 4, as he curled home a superb free kick from range, beating Rise and Shine goalkeeper George Chigova to salvage a point.
"I didn't expect it because they were some great goals that we scored during the month, but I'm very grateful and honored to received it. And I also want to thank the management, my colleagues for helping me to work hard every day," Magubane, who was recently involved in a car accident, said after receiving the award.
"It's also a blessing to be the first player to win this accolade [at Arrows]. The coach [Clinton Larsen] also said that it’s the first time it's happening for the club and it’s also a blessing for me to win personal accolade."
Arrows, meanwhile, will visit the Team of Choice at Harry Gwala Stadium.
Larsen's men are in seventh spot on 37 points, one ahead of eighth placed Chippa United. They will be looking to keep their place in the top eight.
"It’s actually motivation going to this game because there’s a lot at stake," Magubane said.
"We are fighting for a top eight spot and and fighting for our pride, so we are going to go there to work hard. Hopefully we'll get the maximum points.”
