Madubanya: We have an edge over SSU

Posted: 11 May 2018 Time: 16:00

Baroka FC captain Letladi Madubanya believes they have a psychological edge over their final day opponents SuperSport United, a club he played for in the past.

Baroka have beaten SuperSport twice and drawn once against the fellow strugglers, so Madubanya feels they have a mental edge going into a game both sides are determined to win to avoid going into the play-offs.

Baroka are under less pressure going into the game. A draw for Bakgaga would be enough to confirm their safety, but they won’t be playing for a draw as that is dangerous.

Baroka are in 12th place, while SuperSport are living dangerously two places below their opponents. They clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium tomorrow (15h00).

“Psychologically we are higher than SuperSport. We are two teams above them [on the table] and taking into consideration the past two times we’ve played against them we’ve had the upper hand. Looking at SuperSport, they are a very tricky side. They went to the final of the CAF [Confederation Cup], so you can’t take them lightly,” Madubanya said.

“They need the points as much as we do. They know what’s at stake, so this is crunch time. They are my former team, but as a professional you have to move around quite a bit. It’s the last game of the season, it will be a good game for supporters. Not a good game for us players, but that’s what we live for.”

Madubanya admits that Baroka slipped up to be in the situation they are in at the moment. They started the season well and even won Q1, but they now find themselves under threat in the bottom half of the table.

“Personally I am anxious to be playing games of his magnitude. Of course we could have avoided being where we are now, but you know it’s football and we have to face reality and go out there and give 100 percent,” he said.
