“Definitely, that's the agreement,” said Motsepe. “We have been given assurance that they will have their best team – Messi, Suarez [and] Iniesta. They are all excited and they want to come [to South Africa],” he added.

There were doubts if the game would take place. Last Friday Motsepe announced on Metro FM that they would be playing the friendly, but confirmation was slow to come from the La Liga giants.

Barca, however, finally confirmed on Thursday that they would be coming to South Africa as defender Gerard Pique posed for a picture with a Sundowns jersey.

With the World Cup coming up, there are understandbly some concerns for players who want to make sure they are injury-free ahead of the competition.

"The important thing is it’s the year of the World Cup and these players have to represent their countries in the biggest competition in the world.

“But we always knew with patience and the good relations we have, we will get the best players to come with Barcelona.”
