Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt reveals he had opportunities to join one of the Big Three teams

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt says he’s had two opportunities to join one of South Africa’s 'Big Three' teams in the past.

The multiple league-winning coach has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns at some point in his career, but did not want to disclose which one of these clubs he turned down an opportunity to join.

Hunt, who won three titles with SuperSport United and one with Wits last season, says he would have won a lot more than he has in his career had he joined this unnamed club he talks about.

“Yes, I have had opportunities where I could have gone. I think in football sometimes it’s about timing. I know if I had gone there I would have won much more than I have won already, I know that. But that’s football and I say it’s about timing,” he tells KickOff.com.

“I won’t even mention the name. I had two good opportunities to go, but I did not go. I just did not feel the time was right, and believe you me it was much more money. But if it was about money, then I would have gone. It is what it is. I have always felt it’s about timing for me.”

Wits, meanwhile, go into the final day of the season on Saturday needing to beat Platinum Stars at Royal Bafokeng Stadium to have a chance of qualifying for the top eight. They are currently in 10th place, level on points with the two clubs above them, Chippa United and Bloemfontein Celtic.
