Mamelodi Sundowns' MDC coach David Notoane digests bitter MDS pill

Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve team coach David Notoane is satisfied with the way his team performed this season, despite being dethroned as MultiChoice Diski Challenge champions by Golden Arrows.
Sundowns, who were in a rebuilding phase after losing quite a few of last season’s stars, finished eighth in the Diski Challenge and then went on to reach the final of the Diski Shield, only to lose 3-1 to Kaizer Chiefs at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa on Saturday.
“In terms of the objectives that we had for the season, we are happy. From the word go it was clear that we were in a rebuilding process in terms of the team after releasing more than 80 percent of the team,” Notoane tells KickOff.com.
“I look at the squad that won the league last season. We had Keletso Makgalwa and Thomas Sambo available. I think the boys have done well after a rocky start. It was a young team. It has been a rewarding experience, but it’s difficult because you are judged on results as a coach at a big team like Sundowns.
“We got to the final of the Diski Shield, which was an objective for us and it was achieved. But losing on Saturday was a bitter pill to swallow because I have had three cups in the last three years. 2018 has been a barren year.”
