Eksteen was luckier than Ntshangase

Maritzburg United midfielder Ziyaad Eksteen says he is deeply saddened with the death of his teammate Luyanda Ntshangase, who passed away in hospital after being struck by lightning.
Eksteen has revealed he was rather fortunate when lightning struck during a friendly match with SAB League side Arsenal in Pietermaritzburg in March. Ntshangase went into a coma and subsequently died in hospital.
“Firstly I want send my condolences to his family and friends as I feel their pain,” Eksteen told KickOff.com.
“It could gave been me as well you know. This shows one cannot take anything for granted – my thoughts are with his family during their time of bereavement,” said Eksteen.
The Cape Town-born Eksteen recalls the freak incident saying he was just a few metres away from Ntshangase when lightning literally struck.
“He got the direct impact of the lightning and it deflected towards me.
“The next thing I remember is waking up in hospital. It was crazy and freakish, you know. Once again condolences to the Ntshangase family and everyone related to Maritzburg football club.”
